Netherlands vs Costa Rica: Our Match Preview

Standard

Netherlands would battle the giant killers Costa Rica who are unbeaten in this World Cup, and will fight for a spot in the last 4, with Argentina awaiting the winners. Los Ticos became the first CONCACAF team since the USA in 2002 to reach the quarter-final phase of the World Cup and Netherland are unbeaten in 10 out of their last 11 World Cup games, the only blip being the loss to Spain in Soccer City, in the final of the 2010 World Cup. This is the first ever meeting between the two sides and the Los Ticos will be looking to pull off another upset by finishing the Dutch Army led by Captain van Persie and General Robben. Bryan Ruiz who scored versus Greece with his only shot on target will be leading the line for Costa Rica. Although Holland are favourites, it will be a close encounter. Netherlands are reeling from the loss of Nigel de Jong while Costa Rica are sweating on the fitness of Keylor Navas and Roy Miller ahead of Saturday’s World Cup quarter-final clash in Salvador. Oscar Duarte is suspended for this game. Expect a ruthless game with many fouls here, as Netherlands have welcomed a physical approach to their game and Costa Rica have averaged 19 fouls a game this World Cup, only second to Brazil.
